Description & Mechanism
ARA-290 is a synthetic peptide derived from the helix B domain of erythropoietin, designed to selectively activate the innate repair receptor (IRR) without stimulating classical erythropoietic pathways. It was developed as a structurally defined research tool to investigate cytoprotective and anti-inflammatory signalling mechanisms independent of red blood cell production.
In biochemical and cellular research systems, ARA-290 interacts with the EPOR–CD131 receptor complex, initiating intracellular signalling cascades associated with cellular stress responses, inflammation modulation, and tissue protection. Experimental studies examine receptor selectivity, downstream signalling pathways, and comparative responses relative to full-length erythropoietin. Observed molecular effects are dependent on experimental design, concentration, and model system, and are used to explore signalling mechanisms rather than defined biological or physiological outcomes.
Applications in Research
• Investigation of tissue-protective and cytoprotective signalling pathways
• Study of EPOR–CD131 receptor-mediated intracellular signalling
• In vitro models examining inflammatory and stress-response mechanisms
• Use as a reference compound in erythropoietin-derived peptide research
Handling, Reconstitution & Stability
• Weigh under dry conditions; peptide is hygroscopic
• Reconstitute in sterile water or appropriate buffered aqueous solution
• Avoid vigorous agitation during dissolution
• Filter sterilize if required (e.g. 0.22 µm) immediately prior to use
• Aliquot and store reconstituted solutions at –20 °C (or lower)
• Avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles
