Description & Mechanism
N-Acetyl Epitalon is an N-terminally acetylated analogue of the synthetic tetrapeptide Epitalon (AEDG), used as a research reagent to study the parent peptide’s reported activities in experimental systems. In cell and tissue models, Epitalon-family peptides have been studied as putative modulators of telomerase (TERT) expression and as short peptides proposed to interact with DNA/chromatin to influence gene-expression patterns.
N-terminal acetylation is a common chemical modification intended to reduce aminopeptidase cleavage and improve in-vitro stability and handling relative to the unmodified peptide. As a laboratory probe the molecule is used to interrogate proposed peptide–gene-regulation effects, antioxidant/cytoprotective endpoints and senescence-related markers in cell culture; described effects are mechanistic and in-vitro in nature.
Applications in Research
- In-vitro studies of telomerase (TERT) expression and replicative senescence in cultured cells
- Cellular models probing short-peptide modulation of gene expression / chromatin interaction
- Antioxidant and cytoprotective endpoint assays in cell culture
- Comparative stability studies of acetylated vs native tetrapeptides (peptide chemistry research)

Handling, Reconstitution & Stability
- Weigh under dry conditions; peptide is hygroscopic
- Reconstitute in sterile water or appropriate buffered aqueous solution depending on assay requirements
- Avoid vigorous agitation during dissolution
- Filter sterilize if required (e.g. 0.22 µm) prior to use
- Aliquot and store reconstituted solutions at –20 °C or below to minimise degradation
- Avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles
Precautions & Notes
- Confirm the exact entity supplied (free-acid Ac-AEDG-OH vs amidated Ac-AEDG-NH2) against the batch CoA; molecular weights differ
- Experimental behaviour is dependent on concentration, model system and exposure conditions
- Prolonged exposure to light, elevated temperature or aqueous environments may reduce stability
- Intended strictly for laboratory research use; not for human or veterinary application
